New World: Bonds of Shadows

The Breakout 13 studio's next act: a two-player co-op interactive film set in occupied 1941 Shanghai, a secret agent, a banker's daughter, and a marriage neither of them chose.

New World: Bonds of Shadows (新世界:暗影成双) is the boldest structural experiment yet from ALT Lab, the studio behind the Cannes-selected Breakout 13: an interactive film built for two players at once. One of you plays 路维城 (Lu Weicheng), a cold-faced secret agent; the other plays 颜姝 (Yan Shu), a banker’s daughter. A bank bombing in the “isolated island” Shanghai of 1941 binds the strangers together, and to survive the factions closing in, they fake a marriage. You decide between you who plays whom, and your choices land on both of you.

Where single-player FMV asks what you would do, Bonds of Shadows asks something harder: what happens when the branch belongs to two people who don’t fully trust each other. It is co-op as dramaturgy, the format’s next frontier, out now: it reached Steam on September 22, 2026, in Simplified Chinese, with a mobile release also planned.

The game follows ALT Lab and Huying Technology’s 2024 dual-protagonist film 谍影成双, a separate title, and had its free prologue tested through Steam Next Fest demos and a closed beta before committing to the date.
